Day 152 - On the way to River Valley

On the way to River Valley, we went up to Tongariro National Park in the bus. This is a preserved area and was donated to the Queen on the condition that the Maori people could live on it and work it forever and that no permanent structures are built on it. This place now has a few club houses built on it and is a great place of skiing and snowboarding in the winter. On the way up, the bus overheated with a full load of 51 people on it and we all needed to get off. It turned out to be ok and we continued down the mountain.

It took a few hours to get to river valley. It was totally worth it, very secluded and peaceful. The bus had to stop 200m from the lodge because the road was so narrow it wouldn't fit. The evening was spent downing some ciders and I ended up getting to sleep early in preparation for white water rafting tomorrow.
