Day 168 - Kota Kinabalu, Borneo, Malaysia

We woke up at around 6:30am and were picked up to get to the airport bound for Kota Kinabalu. Tiger Airways leaves from the Budget terminal. For good reason. I think it cost about $40 (sin) to fly to Kota Kinabalu from Singapore. Even the sign for the airport looked budget. It was quite funny as it had a purposeful black smudge mark under the word "Budget".

The flight took about 2 hours and we arrived and it was sweltering hot and sunny. We boarded a bus to get into town for 1RM ($0.35) and as we sat down, I noticed that above the driver on the bus were photos of him posing proudly with the bus in the same uniform he was currently wearing lined up above his sun screen. It was hilarious. The other thing that was quite weird was the obvious love of hip hop /R&B music and culture here. They love Akon.

We checked into a hostel called North Borneo Cabin and then went to eat in the restaurant below. I ended up having noodles in soup for 2RM ($0.70). Afterwards we ended up walking around the little mall buying supplies for the hike up Mount Kinabalu.
