Day 92 - Phuket

Left for the ferry pier at 6am this morning and ended up on a ferry that had both cargo and passengers. Of all the ferries I've been on, this was definitely the most comfortable with cushy, reclining seats. I slept quite well for the 1 hour trip. When I was getting off the ferry I noticed a girl wearing a tube top who was really burned except for the word "today" written on her back that was unburnt. Someone had written on her back in sunscreen! It must of really sucked for her but brought me a chuckle.

When we arrived in Donsok we had to grab a bus to Suritthani for an hour. Upon arrival, the bus stopped on the side of the road and proceeeded to unload all of our bags into the middle of the road in front of a storefront. This store had a makeshift travel agent inside. He took our tickets to Phuket and got stickered with new stickers that said "Phuket" in his own handwriting. After about 5 minutes a sangtheaw picked us up and dropped us at a minibus that was randomly outside of a different shop. There were a few Thai passengers already inside and we were on our way to Phuket. The driver kept stopping along the way to pick up and drop off packages. Not only was he a transport service for people but a delivery service as well.

The driver was nuts. We almost got into a bunch of accidents because he was driving really fast and was over taking everyone on the wrong side of the road. The locals on the bus even looked scared so that wasn't a good thing. We arrived on time at 3 pm and checked into Phuket Backpackers hostel. It was 250B a night for a bed in a dorm with a fan in Phuket town. Thank god the travelling around is done for a few days.
